Brussels Airport & Train FYI

It's very easy to travel by train once you arrive in Brussels. You don't have to stay in the city, rent a car nor get a taxi. Belgium is so easy to travel by rail that you really should take advantage of this. We arrived in Brussels and wanted to go to Brugge immediately where we had booked Hotel Patritius. I look for hotels based on location, reviews, and price- we have been happy with our choices to date!

When you arrive in Brussels Airport and collect your baggage, look for the signs to the train which should point you downstairs. Unless you have exact change in Euro's, go directly to the windows all the way to one side of the area downstairs. Just look for "the other line" since there is one immediately off the escalator for the machines that only take exact change.

The people working the ticket window are extremely helpful and most speak English. They can tell you where to get off, even how many stops away, in order to get on your correct train for your final destination. You must take the rail out of the airport in order to get to the other main train stations where you must change trains for your particular destination. We didn't know any better and once we arrived at our train changing station, we waited right there because according to the hanging written schedule, the next train was ours. Well, an hour later and no train, we went on the hunt. To save you time, just go downstairs and walk the main hallway until you find the ticket counter and train schedule Electronic Board! Yes, you need to ignore the written schedules hanging everywhere and go find the real deal. Once we found our train to Brugge, we went to our platform and hopped on our train. Not before grabbing some coffee and oh so sweet & warm chocolate croissants for the ride!

When we arrived in Brugge, we took a taxi to Hotel Patritius. Simple and easy! You can do it! Just remember, if you can't carry it, don't pack it.
