Vacation is always a good time to go outside your comfort zone. Thanks to my friends, I have been persuaded to do things I would never had done on my own, but after I did it was glad. I have snowmobiled through the Reno mountains, zip lined over the forests in Costa Rica, tried escargot in the South of France and remember – what happens in Key West stays in Key West.
These are big deals, as my comfort zone is exploring the shopping areas.
Last evening we joined some friends for a gin tasting. You don't like gin? Either do I - or so I thought.
Last evening we joined some friends for a gin tasting. You don't like gin? Either do I - or so I thought.
The evening’s agenda included samples of about seven different mixtures which included a history lesson on each drink. Not only was it a lot of fun, but we learned a great deal and maybe found a new drink.
With the exception of the Gin Fizz (I don’t do egg whites), all the drinks were very tasty, but my favorite was the Royal Hawaiian. It was a delightful pineapple concoction which was right up there with my favorite: a golden margarita.
Be sure to always request your favorite brand when ordering out, if not you’ll end up with the old liquor that’s been in the back corner of the bar. I also learned that instead of using Grand Marnier as a floater on my margarita; use Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao available at Total Wine. It is another example of orange liquor for those of you liking citrus.
If you are looking for a new cocktail, try following whatarepatandbillydrinking on Facebook to get some really great ideas...but remember to drink responsibly.
Use your vacation to go outside of your comfort zone - you can start with something as simple as a new cocktail!
